Atticus Digital was at the home of the Welsh Rugby Union to film 360˚ video for Visit Wales and BBC Wales. Have you ever wondered what it would look like being stood at the end of the tunnel as the players run out? Or what it’s like to be pitch side for the national anthems? Wonder no more!

The Atticus team, our Go Pro Hero 4 cameras and Freedom 360 rig were all pitch side for the visit of Scotland and the second game of the 2016 RBS 6 Nations Championship at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff. With the roof closed and both teams needing a win to kick-start their championship it was always going to be a hotly contested game with a great atmosphere. What better place for the first ever 360˚ video at an international rugby game?

Visit Wales, BBC Wales and the WRU have all been sharing the content across their social media platforms, but our favourute 360˚ is the montage that Visit Wales have shared on their YouTube channel.Click here to see the video. Watch in Google Chrome for best results.

The WRU and team at The Principality Stadium are always looking for ways in which to put on a show for the crowds. They look for new ways to share the amazing experience of being at a Wales international match with fans around the world. When Visit Wales and BBC Wales asked if they could capture 360˚ video to promote the game, the sport and the country as a whole they were only too happy to help.

We were asked to capture 360˚ video of the players walking down the tunnel to the pitch and on the pitch during the national anthems. Wanting to avoid creating a trip hazard by using a stand for the 360˚ rig we decided to use our trusty action sports helmet with attachment for the 360˚ rig. This meant that we could move our cameras into position without creating a hazard and we could quickly change from position to position as it was going to be sat on top of one of our heads! And... we managed to squeeze onto the BBC live coverage of the game!

After capturing the desired pre game shots we then moved around the stadium capturing behind the scenes 360˚ clips of the BBC Sport crew in action, including the BBC Sport studio during half time, the scanner through which all the video feeds pass for transmission, behind their game cameras and in the tunnel as the Welsh players headed triumphantly for the changing rooms. All in all the experience will provide a great insight into an international game day at the Principality Stadium as well as behind the scenes as the BBC team perform their magic. All of which showcase part of what makes Wales such a special place – passion for rugby.
